This year’s Share Your OHR crowdfunding campaign revealed something powerful. Young professionals are no longer just attendees at AFMO events. They are stepping up to become the leaders, hosts, and ambassadors who are shaping the future of support for Israel’s most vulnerable children.
Five years ago, American Friends of Migdal Ohr launched LeadOhr to cultivate the next generation of committed supporters. What began as a series of Shabbat dinners and gatherings has grown into a community that takes real responsibility. During this campaign, LeadOhr members moved from participation to leadership, inviting friends, organizing events, and raising money that is making a difference!
In Tel Aviv, committee member Michele Freund hosted a rooftop gathering for young professionals who wanted to learn more and get involved. Guests heard from Migdal Ohr alumnus Daniel Rosenberg and his wife, Esther Chen. Daniel shared his journey from life on the streets to becoming an IDF officer. His story showed how consistent support and belief can change a life and inspire others to follow the same path.
In New York, committee members Hudis Moskowitz and Steven Bernstein opened their home to young couples. They spoke about their own connection to Migdal Ohr and shared how they chose to twin their wedding with the wedding of a Migdal Ohr couple in Israel. That same week, committee member Laura Brown organized a sold-out event that brought together 130 people and raised over $4,000 for the campaign.
These gatherings did more than raise funds. They created new ambassadors. Young adults invited their peers into a mission rooted in responsibility and care for real children with real needs.
As AFMO’s Director of Development Mickey Flaumenhaft shared, this moment marked a shift. LeadOhr members demonstrated that they are ready to take ownership. They are building a community that will stand with Migdal Ohr for years to come.
Because of their leadership, thousands more children will continue to receive care, education, and stability. The future of Migdal Ohr’s support base is taking shape, and it is in capable hands.
