This Rosh Chodesh Sivan, a day symbolizing unity and preparation to receive the Torah, Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman once again made history — this time by becoming the longest-serving member of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate Council. Nearly four decades after he was first elected, Rabbi Grossman was reappointed to this distinguished role, continuing a legacy of leadership that has had a profound impact on society in Israel.
Since his arrival in Migdal HaEmek over 50 years ago, Rabbi Grossman has shaped the local rabbinate in Israel. His tireless dedication to serving the local communities, absorbing new immigrants, and rebuilding Torah in places devoid of a connection have become a model of how one local leader can have a far-reaching and long-term impact. While Rabbi Grossman has stood firm on matters of Jewish law, he has always done so with compassion and understanding — building bridges, never walls. He has built partnerships at the national and local levels working with the Ministries of Health, Education, Absorption, Finance, and many others to implement their initiatives or pilot Migdal Ohr programs.
At the official ceremony, Rabbi Grossman reminded all present of seminal importance of Jewish unity and of bridge-building. In his address, he shared:
“Today, Rosh Chodesh Sivan, is a day especially suited for unity. When the people of Israel came to Mount Sinai – ‘And Israel encamped there’ – they were as one person with one heart.”
He closed with the message that has become his motto: “We are all Jews. There are no religious or secular, no Ashkenazim or Sephardim – we are all brothers! When we are united, we are unstoppable.”
