It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Migdal Ohr family shares the passing of our beloved Chairman Emeritus and former American Friends of Migdal Ohr President, Max Thurm z”l.

Many within our Migdal Ohr family are mourning not only a revered leader, but a beloved family member. Max was the cherished father of Yael Saffra and beloved father-in-law of our board member, Norman Saffra. Our hearts are with Yael, Norman, and the entire Thurm and Saffra families during this difficult time.

Max was far more than a leader. He was a devoted friend of Migdal Ohr, a steadfast partner to Rabbi Grossman, and a passionate advocate for the thousands of children whose lives have been transformed through his vision, generosity, and unwavering dedication.

For so many of us, Max was a cherished friend, mentor, and source of wisdom. His kindness, humility, and deep commitment to helping others defined the way he lived his life and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for the children of Migdal Ohr and his commitment to our mission helped shape the organization we know today, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to impact generations to come.

We mourn this tremendous loss together and extend our deepest condolences to Yael, Norman, the entire Thurm and Saffra families, and all who were blessed to know and love him. May Hashem comfort them among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

May Max’s z’l neshamah have an aliyah, and may his memory continue to be a blessing and an inspiration to all of us.
