What was once an unused dunam of land on Migdal Ohr’s Afikei Ohr campus in northern Israel has been transformed into a vibrant orchard and educational garden, thanks to the generosity and hard work of the employees of KLA and the KLA Foundation.
Over the course of several days, KLA team members rolled up their sleeves and worked side-by-side to create a beautiful green space that will serve generations of young women at Migdal Ohr. Together, they built planting beds and cultivated an orchard featuring the Seven Species of the Land of Israel including grapevines, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates, as well as the Four Species - myrtles, etrogs, and willow trees.
The project extended far beyond the orchard itself. Volunteers also planted a flourishing herb garden, colorful flower beds, and an innovative living green wall equipped with a water-recycling irrigation system, creating both a beautiful and sustainable environment.
Now, the girls of the youth village are taking ownership of what KLA helped build. As part of their educational program, they will maintain the orchard and gardens, learning valuable lessons in agriculture, sustainability, responsibility, and teamwork. Students will even build benches in Migdal Ohr’s woodshop to place along the garden paths, creating spaces for reflection, learning, and connection.
This project is about far more than planting trees and flowers. It is about planting roots, cultivating responsibility, and creating opportunities for young women to grow and thrive. The impact of KLA’s partnership will be felt for years to come, not only in the gardens that now bloom across the campus, but in the lives of the students who will care for them.
To the employees of KLA and the KLA Foundation: thank you for helping transform a piece of land into a living classroom, a source of pride, and a lasting legacy.
