Isaac Kakone, says it well, "Migdal Ohr doesn't have alumni, we have children, and as they grow up, we only get closer, attending their simchas, and advising them as parents."
As I see Isaac, a young man who has been so much in his life, I feel the pride of a father.
Isaac Kakone was only fourteen years old when I got a call from a concerned relative in Canada.
"He's already so far gone, involved in crime and drugs. We have one last hope to save this boy's life!" said the woman on the line. "Could he come to Migdal Ohr?"
Of course," I answered. "Anything to save a life."
I still remember meeting Isaac for the first time. He didn't trust anyone, so angry and alone from years of fending for himself. It was obvious that this boy needed boundaries, but more importantly, a lot of love.
Isaac needed the love of a father and a family.
We say that the Zoharim Boys Youth Village is "a home that believes in you," and that is exactly what it became for him. The three powerful years the he spent here changed the entire trajectory of Isaac's life.
Migdal Ohr was the first place where Isaac didn't have to fight for a place. More than that, he found unconditional acceptance and love.
For the first time in his life, Isaac had a warm bed, home-cooked meals, and clean laundry to wear.
We take these things for granted, but they can break a child and leave them feeling that there is no one who cares for them.
Baruch Hashem, thank G-d, we were able to embrace Isaac with the love of a family and give him the unconditional acceptance he was looking for.
Isaac found his reason to live, inspired by the selfless giving he saw all around him. He completed high school and enlisted in the IDF.
You can hear him tell his story here:
After his military service, Isaac married and moved to Cyprus. However, he was soon injured in a serious motorcycle accident that changed his life forever.
When speaking to groups, Isaac describes this time as a dark period of drug addiction, anger, and loss.
Using the tools he gained at Migdal Ohr, Isaac began the difficult journey of reclaiming control, transforming personal pain into a renewed commitment to growth.
For a second time in life, Isaac needed to pick himself up, but this time, he knew he could call on his Migdal Ohr family and mentors to pull him out of darkness and push him forward.
Today, it gives me great nachat, pride, to watch Isaac share his inspiring story with groups and to help others find their purpose as a coach.
He is proof that any child, at any age, can begin again and achieve the impossible.
Isaac is one of the tens of thousands of children over the last 50 years who you have saved by partnering with Migdal Ohr.
