"I was one of the first students at Migdal Ohr in 1975. While many of my peers are now serving time in prison, I am a father of 5, running for public office. I'm proof that anything is possible!"
Dear Friend,
My name is Eli Gabbay. As one of Rabbi Grossman's very first students, I know how Migdal Ohr has changed tens of thousands of lives - including mine! Now we, the alumni, are making Israel a great place to live and leading by example.
This New Year, please join me to ensure another 50 years of Migdal Ohr and to give the children growing up there a bright future!
Back then, we were a class of boys and girls studying in a one-room trailer. We came from poor families who had very few resources to invest in us. Some children literally came off the streets while others were from families too poor to feed or clothe them properly.
Today, just 50 years later, there are 10,000 children in Migdal Ohr's programs!
After I graduated, Rabbi Grossman encouraged me to become a paratrooper in the IDF and I later became a commanding officer in an elite undercover unit. I married my wonderful wife Celia, had five children, and became the director of several prisons where I focused on rehabilitating prisoners.
Today, I am running for office as the council president of Kfar Tabor where I live! It is a privilege to serve my country and to make it a better place for everyone to live.
Rabbi Grossman taught me that it’s always worth it to care about people and to try - even if it only makes a difference to just one person.
He taught me that when we get involved early with young children, we can save them from a life of poverty and prison.
Let's strengthen Migdal Ohr and keep growing it's impact. Let's change Israel together, let's change the world!
Shana Tova U’Metuka!
